The Passuk for 5766

Our Sages teach us that the Pesukim (verses) in the Torah teach us about the
corresponding year in Jewish history.

For example the Passuk for the year 5698 (1938 C.E.) - תרצ"ח is the 5698th
Passuk in the Torah. (29,26 דברים - Deut 29,26) "Hashem was angered and
brought upon you all the curses that are written here"

The Passuk for 5766 comes from Haazinu דברים פרק לב,יד Deut 32,14
חֶמְאַת בָּקָר וַחֲלֵב צֹאן, עִם-חֵלֶב כָּרִים וְאֵילִים
בְּנֵי-בָשָׁן וְעַתּוּדִים, עִם-חֵלֶב, כִּלְיוֹת חִטָּה;
וְדַם-עֵנָב, תִּשְׁתֶּה-חָמֶר.

Chazal teach us that this refers to times when making parnasah will be much
easier to enable us to devote more time to Torah and Mitzvot

  2. How does the passuk relate to the number? I searched for a gematria 5766 but did not come up with any passuk.

Well, even if it isn't a direct correlation, I do hope it's for real!

    Happy New Year!

  4. To bsd_217 & Mary Poppinz.

The Passuk is the 5766th in the Torah. In other words start at Bereishit and count forward 5766 Psukim, or since there are 5845 Psukim in the Torah, start at the end (of VeZot Habrachah) and count back from 5845.

There is always a connection between the year and it's passuk, one just has to be on an extremely high level to understand it.

I, like most people in Israel, am struggling to make a Parnasah. So I too am just hoping that is one of its meanings.

    Shana Tovah

PS. Mary Poppinz, BeHatzlachah with the job hunt. Let us know how it goes!

I don't know the history and the tradition's of interpreting Passuk and I do not want to seem rude.

So, I'll put this in form of a question.

The context is one where 'The Rock of his salvation', that of Jacob is angry at His people and He is explaining to Moshe how he gave them so much in the past, yet they neglected him and turned to other 'gods'.

Within context, it calls me to remember how we should never forget the blessings given us and become arrogant like in the past which the very next verse states; "But Yeshurun grew fat and kicked - You are grown fat, thick, and sleek - Then he forsook God who made him, And scorned the Rock of his salvation.", or to worship idols and other 'god'.

To me, it seems men are always trying to pull something out of nothing instead of just enjoying the truth of the full word presented to us.

To me, taking words from G_d's mouth to Moshe and then twisting them to somehow 'foretell' a good year is every bit as bad as what made G_d angry in the first place of this text.

    Curious what you think.

Ooops, so much for preview, I forgot to edit the note.

Do you think there is a danger for people to look at such pronouncements and single out such verse and then 'wish upon a star' so to speak, as in astrology?

It surprises me that someone would in fact make such pronouncements on a verse out of context. But then again, I'm not familiar with this tradition.

If we pick out a verse based upon a year and then intepret it completely out of context and then lets say, the interpretation comes true. Are we really following G_d's word? I guess that is my main question.

Or, is it just a 50/50 chance of good year/bad year predictions?

And since historically I know Israel is making fantastic progress in all areas of business technology, health, etc. - even Bill Gates see's the 'light'; how is it really such a prediction for this year to be a good year?

Business people can see what Israel is now doing with joint relationships around the world in business and politics. I think its great!

It seems rather straight forward to the average person with any business insight to look forward to a good year for Israel.

On the other hand, if we read the entire context of Deuteronomy - Wow - what a historical moment in time for the people of Israel. Moshe, Yahoshua, the warnings, the power of G_d, what will happen if the people do not listen and how G_d will protect them not because of them, but because of who He is.

This word glorifies G_d and his past dealings with his people, even though they turned away and their enemies come against them, it shows 'Vengeance is Mine' sayeth G_d.

It seems a good lesson overall definitely for today, for the return of Israel.

Well, seemed to have rambled a bit, my apologies. But, do you think its good to take such verse out of context and then apply it for a year long outlook?

    thanks and good blog...

  8. Hi

I don't have any specific knoledge that this is in fact what the passuk means, only the great Chachamim can do that.

I merely looked in the meforshim and saw that the pshat of the passuk itself refferd to times of the Mashiach where the Jews will not have to exert any effort to earn a parnasah. I just made a supposition that this could indicate a good economic year this year. This was confirmed by several mekubalim.

Ha'azinu itself is extremely deep and (according to our tradition) impossible for a human mind to understand even beyond a relatively simple level.

But it does seem to indicate that we have entered a special time as far as the Geulah goes, as has been confirmed by all the leading sages of our generation. :-)

Thanks for visiting and taking to time to leave a comment.
